Turning standards into practical drill management.

Many organizations know how drills should be planned and evaluated, but applying those standards consistently can be challenging. AssuriCore Drills Management brings planning, execution, scoring, and evaluation into one structured process, helping teams move away from fragmented tools and manual administration. Niels Hammink shares the thinking behind the solution and how it supports a more practical, repeatable approach to drill management.

How better drills start with better structure.

Many organizations use established industry standards to define how drills should be planned, executed, and evaluated. The challenge is often not understanding the standard itself, but applying it consistently across different teams, locations, and exercises.

AssuriCore Drills Management was developed to help organizations translate these standards into a practical and repeatable process. Rather than relying on spreadsheets, documents, and manual administration, the platform brings drill planning, execution, scoring, and evaluation together in one place.

Niels Hammink, involved in the design of Drills Management, explains some of the thinking behind the solution.

How does the platform support industry standards?

Niels: One of the goals was to make standards easier to apply in practice.

For example, for customers in the oil and gas industry, we have incorporated the assessment criteria from the IOGP 628 standard into the platform. This allows organizations to score individual elements directly during a drill and provides confidence that all required areas are being assessed.

Instead of manually checking spreadsheets or documents afterwards, assessors can follow a structured process and immediately see how teams performed against the relevant criteria.

How do you ensure drills remain realistic?

Niels: A common challenge with recurring drills is that people start to recognize the scenario. If every exercise follows exactly the same path, participants know what to expect.

That’s why we introduced complications that can be added to a drill. Multiple complications can be configured for a scenario, and different ones can be selected for each exercise.

This creates variation and encourages teams to respond to changing circumstances rather than simply repeating what happened during the previous drill.

How are drills managed over time?

Niels: We wanted organizations to be able to build a library of reusable drill templates.

Different drill types require different objectives, scoring criteria, roles, and complications. Templates make it easy to set up new exercises while ensuring consistency across the organization.

We also included version control. As processes improve and standards evolve, templates can be updated while previous versions remain available for reference and historical reporting.

How does the platform connect to the organization?

Niels: We wanted to avoid maintaining the same information in multiple places.

Teams, work units, and personnel are synchronized directly from the AssuriCore Portal. As a result, organizational data only needs to be managed once and is immediately available within Drills Management.

This reduces administration and ensures drills always use the latest organizational structure.

Bringing everything together.

AssuriCore Drills Management combines industry standards, structured assessments, drill templates, version control, and realistic exercise variation in a single platform.

Whether organizations work with standards such as IOGP 628 or their own internal requirements, the platform provides a structured way to plan drills, measure performance, and maintain consistency across the organization.

The result is a more efficient drill management process, better visibility into performance, and confidence that exercises are being conducted against the criteria that matter most.
