In this interview, Coen Rodenboog, the Associate Director Well Operations of Eraze IT, shares why capturing risks in a structured way is the foundation for better well integrity, smarter decisions, and proactive maintenance.

Well integrity starts with knowing what is happening in your wells.
But in practice, that is often where the challenge begins. Risks are identified in different places, data is spread across systems and teams can struggle to distinguish between observations, issues and truly critical risks.
Electronic Well Integrity Process Safety (EWIPS) was designed to bring structure into that process. We spoke with Coen Rodenboog, the Associate Director Well Operations, about how organizations can move from risk registration to real risk insight and ultimately to preventive maintenance.
Where does good well integrity management begin?
Coen: It starts with registration. If risks, observations or integrity issues are not captured in a structured way, you lose control immediately. People may know something is happening, but that knowledge often remains scattered across reports, spreadsheets, emails or individual teams. EWIPS creates one environment where risks and integrity observations are recorded consistently and linked to the right wells. That sounds basic, but it is essential. Because before you can assess or manage a risk, you first need to make sure it is visible, documented and traceable. Without that first step, risk management becomes reactive and fragmented.
Once risks are registered, what is the next challenge?
Coen: The second challenge is understanding what the real risk actually is. Many organizations have a lot of data, but that does not automatically tell you what requires action. Some wells may show deviations that are manageable. Others may require immediate intervention. EWIPS helps users distinguish between those situations. The tool gives direct insight into severity, risk status and control measures, so users can quickly understand where attention is needed and where action becomes urgent. That is important because risk management is not about collecting alarms. It is about prioritizing based on impact, urgency and controllability. Only then do risks become manageable in a practical way.
How does historical insight improve well integrity management?
Coen: This is where things become really valuable. EWIPS does not only show the current situation. It also provides historical insight into well behavior, recurring issues and integrity trends over time. That means users can start recognizing patterns. For example, if certain test results show gradual deterioration, or if maintenance issues return in similar cycles, that tells you something about future risk. Instead of reacting when a problem becomes critical, teams can intervene earlier. That is how you move toward preventive maintenance. Historical insight helps organizations shift from “what is wrong today?” to “what is likely to require attention tomorrow?”. And that makes planning much stronger.
So, what does EWIPS ultimately deliver?
Coen: For me, EWIPS creates a clear progression in decision-making. First, you capture risks in a structured way. Second, you understand which risks really matter. Third, you use historical insight to anticipate what is coming and act earlier.
